A lot of work has been put into this ordinance in an effort to address the significant disparity in how Unified Govt of Wyandotte County, KCK and Prime-Contractors reveiving public funds and incentives procure and contract with local, women and minority owned businesses. Both local officials, business development organizations, the construction industry and concerned citizens have met, shared information and suggestions, and provided comments; both private and public to assure a policy that can grow with Wyandotte County.
Your support can shown by 1) showing up to be in the Commissioners Chamber to show visible support as a concerned and interested business owner and taxpayers. Second, if you own a business, actively participate in all the opportunities that will be made available under this ordinance.
UG staff have made every effort to rise to Mayor Reardon's call to establish a policy that would address the Nov. 2006 Kansas City Consortium Disparity Study. Although an ordinance (policy) is the first step of many, it is this first step we must support and then move forward from there.

The Unified Government Supplier Diversity Ordinance is set to go before our Commission for approval next Thursday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m. We will be working this week to make final revisions to the Ordinance based on recommendations that can be reasonably accommodated in this first version of the program.
